Maintenance Employee
Job Description:
The maintenance employee performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled work in the maintenance, construction, landscaping and repair of facilities and properties owned by the City, along with other related activities.
Duties
This position requires the employee to work independently to perform all duties associated with the maintenance, construction, landscaping and repair of City facilities. The employee must be competent and experienced enough to personally complete work procedures needed. Other duties include but are not limited to:
- Follow safe work practices and observes safety rules and precautions;
- Operates any equipment needed to fulfill job duties;
- Loads, unloads deliveries, supplies, and maintenance equipment;
- Cleans, lubricates and maintains equipment and tools;
- Cleans all city owned properties, also removing any debris and litter;
- Responds to and/or assists the public with information as needed.
- Perform any carpentry work required;
- Repairs, maintains, and paints structures and equipment;
- Maintains and cleans parking, sidewalks and entrances to the buildings;
- Works on ladders and/or scaffolding at varied heights;
- May be assigned to perform other maintenance duties as required.
Other Skills
Good communication skills are an essential part of a maintenance employee’s position. Must have knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and care of each facility and the equipment. Math skills are needed to perform many of the duties necessary. The position is required to maintain a variety of records, perform manual labor for extended periods, carry out any written and oral instructions, operate hand and power tools as necessary.
Physical Demands
During the course of performing job duties, the employee will perform heavy physical work and will need the mobility to operate equipment, which may include office and/or field equipment, specialized instruments or tools requiring repetitive arm/hand movement. The employee frequently stands, walks, bends at the neck and waist, twists at neck and waist, uses simple and power grasping, uses fine manipulation of both hands and fingers, and may require use of the arms above the shoulder, climb or balance; stoop, kneel or crouch. May be on uneven surfaces.
